The Bombay School of Economics, now known as the Mumbai School of Economics and Public Policy, an autonomous department of the University of Mumbai, completed 100 years on 1 August 2021. In this article, we attempt to look at the various facets of one of the oldest departments in the country.

How UGC Handles Higher Education

The Centre for Advanced Study in Mathematics at the University of Mumbai was established in the early 1960s. It was closed down by the UGC in February last year. The manner in which the decision was taken and the UGC's refusal to disclose, much less discuss, the reasons for the decision illuminate the functioning of the UGC as the apex organisation of higher education in the country.
