Geopolitics Rooted in Routes
The IMEC is an attempt by the US to achieve its larger plans to merge West Asia with South Asia.
Atul Bhardwaj writes:
The great power rivalry, rooted in territorial logic, is once again using land-based trade routes as new geopolitical instruments. The classic balance-of-power game is underway. China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is contesting the hegemony of global connectivity by maritime United States (US), the “liberal Leviathan.” The US wants to retain the sole rights to “weaponise interdependence” within the post-war asymmetric network structures by establishing fresh linkages to prevent China from dominating the race to erect financial, commercial, infrastructural, and digital interdependence alongside the routes being constructed under the BRI projects.
