Jan Sangh Bides Time
The Jan Sangh central parliamentary board’s decision to overrule the resolution passed by the party’s Madhya Pradesh unit expressing its desire to withdraw from the SVD Government has saved the Government for the moment. How long it will be before the precarious compromise is once again disturbed it is difficult to say, but the chances are that the Government may just survive till the crop of mid-term elections early next year. This is because the central leadership of the Jan Sangh is keen to avoid any serious diversions before the elections in UP, Punjab and Bihar. In Madhya Pradesh itself the party is playing for high stakes, and so, should an election there become unavoidable, it would like to be able to devote all its attention to it.
