On Osmania University

The article “Remembering Osmania University’s Contribution to Public Life” (EPW, 14 April 2018) by Adapa Sat­ya­narayana is informative and impressive. 

It is interesting to know that the last Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, in 1917, “promulgated a farman by which the new university was designed to take full advantage of all that is best in the ancient and modern systems of physical, intellectual and spiritual culture.” Without modern education, no nation can ­develop, and establishing a university as early as 1917 is praiseworthy.
