Modi: From Gujarat to Delhi
Modi and His Challenges by Rajiv Kumar, New Delhi: Bloomsbury, 2016; pp 317, ₹599.
Rajiv Kumar, a senior fellow of the Centre for Policy Research and a noted economist has embarked on the difficult task of evaluating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s challenges, midway through his term. Maybe a bit too early in the day, but Kumar feels the need to explain to the world how difficult it is for Modi to run a country like India, whose economy has been relentlessly run down by the Congress party just to satisfy a few Marxists and pseudo secularists.
The introduction is a concise piece on the circumstances that brought Modi to power and the short honeymoon with the electorate. It allows Kumar to plant his flag firmly in the anti-Congress camp, strangely labelled “Congreessism” (p 9).
