Knowledge, Education and Labour Practices in India
This paper examines the connection between knowledge and labour practices in India, first, at the sector level, and then at the firm level, developing a typology of labour practices. It subsequently looks at knowledge-based differentiation of labour practices within firms, concluding with a knowledge-based segmentation of the labour market.
This paper was presented at the Asian Development Bank workshop on employment, held in Manila in January 2016. Some ideas in this paper were also presented earlier at a seminar at the Society for Labour and Development, New Delhi and later at the International Labour Organization, New Delhi, in March 2016.
