My grateful thanks to S L Shetty for his very detailed and most understanding review ("Remembering V V Bhatt," EPW, 6 June 2015) of my dear departed friend V V Bhatt's contributions in different spheres of development economics and particularly his pioneering work relating to the country's post-independence fi nancial and monetary transition. Apart from everything else, Vinoo Bhatt was a wonderful human being, kindness would ooze out of his personality, and he was always ready to do a good turn to whoever would approach him seeking solution to a problem.

Apart from everything else, Vinoo Bhatt was a wonderful human being, kindness would ooze out of his personality, and he was always ready to do a good turn to whoever would approach him seeking solution to a problem.
With his passing, a very thin number of survivors from amongst those youngsters who in the immediate post-independence period drifted into economics with their individual dreams to build a beautiful India has further reduced. My fi rst instinct on hearing about his death late last year--and I acted upon it--was to inform our common friend Ramdas Honavar who is settled in O-Porto, Portugal, and inform him that we are now one less.
