We, the Schooled Middle Class

In the light of today’s social and political environment, when secular credentials are under threat, we need to seriously re-examine our education system.

The school my daughters go to prides itself on Sri Aurobindo, Mother’s philosophy and the brand of spiritualism that goes with it. As an alumnus myself, I have long known that the school has always packaged its spiritualism as a selling point.

A few days ago my wife and I went to attend what the school termed a “circle meeting” (read: parent–teacher meeting) for our younger daughter who had just been admitted in the pre-nursery section.
