The (Anti)Kill Bill
Whether killing animals to satisfy hunger is morally right or wrong is a complex question. However, many animals are killed in the name of religion. The violent offshoots of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which are holding forth loudly against animal slaughtering in Maharashtra should explain why uncounted animals are slaughtered around the state in the name of Navas (to pray and vow for a wish). The BJP–Shiv Sena politicians who demand this ban on cow slaughtering turn a blind eye to animal sacrifice in the name of blind faith and religion.

Though the BJP–Shiv Sena-led government is claiming that the issue should not be seen through the communal lens, they are unable to justify why they did not have any objection to the slaughtering of water buffalos along with protecting the so-called “holy cow”? Through this issue the BJP government is seeking to push the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh agenda of sidelining Muslims by cleverly camouflaging it in these terms. When the BJP formed its government with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, it had propagated its agenda of protecting the farmer and ending unemployment in the state. Its current modus operandi, however, shows that it has dumped these promises and is focusing only on its Hindutva agenda. Apart from this we have only seen ghar wapsi, hate speeches and Love Jihad from its ideological siblings.
