Muslims in the Civil Services

A section of the Muslim community in India often expresses concern about the community's poor representation in the civil services. The rhetoric about poverty, low educational levels and the non-implementation of the recommendations of the Sachar Committee report converge largely on the demand for a religion-based reservation in education and employment. However, it is the low level of participation rather than the low success ratio of Muslim candidates that is the root cause of the low representation.
