Aarti Wani in “The Provincial Self in the Town of Love” (EPW, 21 December 2013) lauds the Hindi film Shuddh Desi Romance (SDR) for its presentation of the reality of romance, its anti-marriage stance and attempt to reconfigure gender relations. This article, while responding to Wani’s arguments, attempts to intervene in the purported less than adequate conversation generated around its politics.
