This is with reference to the letter, “Politics over Economics”, carried in EPW (7 December). This reminds me of Mao’s famous coinage, “Politics in Command.

It is true that economic thought of any time period is organically connected with its political trajectories. But there is no guarantee that a popular movement from below will automatically lead to a basic transformation in the dominant language of economics. In my opinion, an alternative imagination of the language of economics embedded in the everyday life of the people requires a cultural revolution in the perspective of the subaltern classes.
