The Making and Unmaking of 'Development'

This book is not just timely, it engages with the genealogy of development thought over a fairly long period of time. Thereby, it enables researchers, teachers and students of “development studies”, and practitioners of “development” to pause and reflect on, among other things, how change, identified as the achievement of certain development goals, continues to remain elusive. This is so not so much because of poor/no implementation but more because the ideologies that underpin these standard policies and practices are at variance with their stated objectives. Readers are therefore compelled to go back to some of the founding texts to be able to comprehend and critically engage with the trajectory of the present development scenario.
