I was very glad to see the two articles on the proposed National Investment Board (EPW, 10 November 2012). It is ­incredible that such a preposterous idea has been proposed. May I state the following – for cathartic purposes, if no other?

Sweeping aside five decades of slow, painful growth of enlightenment on environment and ecology and sensitivity to human rights, particularly those of tribal and other disadvantaged communities, a new overarching body is proposed that will override all these concerns, according primacy to what is called development.
