Regaining Credibility of the Medical Profession

All doctors enrolled in the practice of modern medicine are inheriting a tradition with a long professional history since the 5th century BC, the period of Hippocrates.

Doctors used to be cautious not to cause intentional harm or injustice. They believed in holistic healing. They showed warmth, sympathy and empathy to patients and synthesised the “art” and “science” of medicine in practice. They did not claim that they could cure everything by themselves. They were not ashamed to say “I do not know; I shall refer and tell you” when asked about something they had not learned about so far.
