In connection with the article “Delhi Metro Rail: Beyond Mass Transit” by Pritpal Randhawa (EPW, 21 April 2012), the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) would like to bring to your notice the following facts:
The Delhi Metro is not a case of “overrunning cost” or underutilisation of capacity. Both Phase I and Phase II were completed within the estimated cost. DMRC trains run jam-packed, so much so that additional coaches have been added to the existing four-coach trains to make them six-coach trains and plans are already afoot to increase the capacity to eight coaches from this year.
