In the last two financial years, the elevated level of wholesale price inflation is driven essentially by primary articles and fuel and power. The point to point inflation rate of manufactured products, carrying a weight of about 65%, moderated from 7.5% in 2010-11 to 4.9% in 2011-12. The inflation rate of fuel and power (15% weight) did not moderate as much – it decreased from 12.5% to only 10.4%. The inflation rate of primary articles (weight of about 20%) also moderated from 13.4% but remained at an elevated level of 9.6% during the same period.
