French citizens of migrant Muslim descent, especially women, know what it means to live under the extreme right who use repressive interpretations of religion to rule. They are increasingly labelled as "Muslim" even if they are nonbelievers. This reactionary trend of ethnicising and religionising social and political problems in Europe and elsewhere needs to be countered.
