Error in Fact and Naiveté

Chandrashekhar G Ranade in his letter of 14 August (“Second Plan Insights”) says that I did not refer to D R Gadgil as the vice-chairman of the Planning Commission in my review (“Trajectory of a Life in Political Eco nomy”, 24 July).

But he should know that during K S Krishnaswamy’s time in the Planning Commission and the context of my review (the 1966 devaluation), it was Ashok Mehta who was vice-chairman of the Planning Commission.
