Farmers' Situation Bad, but Not Bleak
The article by A Narayanamoorthy, ‘State of India’s Farmers’ (February 11, 2006) was very enlightening. However, notwithstanding the fact that the note was comprehensive and analytical on several aspects of the plight of the Indian farmers, it erred in one of its calculations.
After cross-checking the data and my own calculations for my ongoing MPhil dissertation, I found that the figures denoting the difference between farmers’ annual cultivation income and farmers’ annual cultivation expenditure as presented in the article are incorrect.
