Contract Farming
This refers to the article ‘Contract Farming through Agribusiness Firms and State Corporation: A Case Study in Punjab’ by Parmod Kumar which appeared in the December 30, 2006 issue.
The author observes that contract farming as promoted by the Punjab Agro Foodgrains Corporation (PAFC) is inefficient compared to the direct contract farming by the agribusiness firms in the state. Further he finds that direct contract farmers had benefited because of the arrangements compared to the non-contract farmers.
