Mining has had a considerable impact on people's lives and livelihoods in Jharkhand. The different laws regulating the activity have been found wanting and the ones applied have been flouted regularly. This calls for modifying the obsolete laws, firmly implementing the people-friendly ones and discarding the notion that mining is equal to development.
