Honda Dispute: Labour Repression

Labour Repression The Indian public is deeply distressed and angered at the brutal manner in which the Haryana police subjugated protesting workers of the Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) and their sympathisers at Gurgaon on July 25. Images on TV and pictures in the print media of helpless workers lying on the ground being mercilessly beaten by policemen drove home the point that the police acted without restraint. The image next day of a frenzied woman at the civil hospital attacking policemen with a baton was reflective of the end of toleration of those who have been at the receiving end of this ordeal.
