The union cabinet's clearance for the Sethusamudram project has ignored the post-tsunami debate on the technical feasibility of the canal. This article argues that implementing the project without thorough debate could have long-term negative repercussions on the future economic, legal, ecological and social spaces of India and Sri Lanka.
