When an Islamist, a member of Hizb al-Tahrir demanding a universal Islamic caliphate, asked him if he would endorse a return to sharia for all Muslim states of the world, he said he belonged to Africa where the Muslims were a minority community and therefore cared for democracy; in Muslim majority states, he asserted, the Muslims were not agreed on the sharia, implying that they cared little for democracy.
