A Year After

A Year After It has been a year without Krishna Raj, or KR as he was more easily addressed. A difficult year for the Economic and Political Weekly, the magazine KR edited for most of the years it has been in existence. That the EPW has lived through and sustained itself through a difficult period is perhaps a tribute to everything that KR exemplified. Krishna Raj became editor of the EPW in 1969, and held that position for 35 years till his sudden demise in January 2004. Under his stewardship, the EPW carved out a secure place for itself among scholars and researchers across a variety of disciplines who came together and exchanged ideas in its pages. The EPW consistently provided a forum for the significant debates of the day as well as an avenue for expression for new emerging disciplines and younger scholars. This consistency appeared juxtaposed against a changing India whose every change was faithfully recorded in the pages of the journal
