Environment : Uneasy Rumblings
Silent Valley is set to resound through environmental lobbies once again. Two decades after the controversial hydel power project was shelved, the Kerala government has decided to revive it, on the grounds of a widening demand-supply gap and rising costs of power generation. It has instructed the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to recast the proposal incorporating new technologies such as sub-surface dams, etc, for submission to the central government for approval.
