Family Planning Programme

A paradigm shift in the family planning programme strategy of the Indian government is under way. The new programme places emphasis on the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) approach to the complete neglect of primary health care. This article focuses on the context that gave birth to the new initiative and, analysing epidemiological data on women's health in the country, undertakes a critique of the RCH approach.
