Press under Threat THE ongoing tussle between the press and the government in Pakistan is hardly a new development. Over the last five decades the press in Pakistan has had a history of defying governments which have attempted to muzzle it. And interestingly, through it all, there has been a surprising solidarity within the press. In a sense, the press in Pakistan has been far more politically alive than its Indian counterpart. In the current case, for instance, although the Jang group has been the focus of attack by the government, there has been widespread protest among journalists and other employees of almost all newspapers.
