and Rural Poverty In our article 'Rising Food Prices and Rural Poverty: Going Beyond Correlations' (EPW, September 26) we observed (in footnote 2), "The present authors computed the correlation coefficient, as well as rank correlation coefficient between RPF and HCR using data from respectively 18 and 14 most recent NSS rounds, and were unable to get correlations anywhere close to 0.76 as reported by Ravallion" and again in (footnote 10). "Ravallion's correlation of 0.76 between HCR and RPF does not seem to be robust if fewer observations (say the 14 or 18 most recent NSS rounds) are used". Here RPF refers to relative price of food and HCR is head count ratio (measured poverty).
