Anomalies in Indian Data Sets MALA LALVANI deserves appreciation for her painstaking study (Some Anomalies in Indian Data Sets: Tackling Inconsistencies', EPW , June 7). It is important to have quality data in order to ensure quality empirical research. Thus the author's concern about comparability of data over a period of time is not futile. However, the lack of proper adjustment procedures should not make the attempt to establish the comparability of data futile due to statistical inconsistencies of adjusted data.
