The company performed poorly during 1995-96 when its net profit tumbled by 42.6 per cent over the previous year, 1994-95. Though the company managed to notch an 8.1 per cent increase in net sales and a 7.2 per cent increase in operating profit during the year under review, its bottomline was affected due to the sharp increase in interest charges which rose by 30.9 per cent over the same period. Despite the steep fall in earnings per share from Rs 240 to Rs 135 (face value Rs 100 per share), the company has maintained the dividend rate at 75 per cent.
