Though the construction industry stagnated during the year, the cement and steel industries recorded growth rates of 10 per cent and 14 per cent, respectively, while the automobile industry, another major consumer of paints, saw a 32 per cent growth. Riding piggyback on these segments, the paint industry encountered its third successive year with growth during the year touching 12 percent in volume terms.
