S C Dube I WAS upset by Andre Beteille's obituary of S C Dube (March 30). Its tongue-in-check tone was quite unexpected: in fact, I had never read an obituary written with so much irony and disdain. Also I felt that Beteille ignored one major aspect of Dube's personality and presence in the Indian social science scene. And, on at least one fact, I found Beteille's interpretation seriously questionable.
