Lessons of Bengal Municipal Elections THE results of the municipal elections in West Bengal have attracted nationwide media attention because of the setbacks suffered by the ruling Left Front. Elections were field to 79 municipal bodies, out of which the LF won a majority in 39 and the Congress in 29. In 10 municipalities the results were indecisive and the Forward Block(S) won a majority in one municipality. The LF lost control of 14 municipalities and Congress of four, resulting in a net gain of 10 municipalities for the Congress.
