The Deep Sea Fishing Industry Association has also denounced the agitation, claiming that there are only 22 vessels operating in Indian waiers at present, with an annual harvest of 15,000 to 20,000 tonnes, hardly 2 per cent of the total catch. But in spite of the agitation and industry's claims that it is suffering, total seafood exports crossed the $1 billion mark for the first time in 1994-95.
