EPW Research Foundation KANPUR-based Lohia Machines (LML), manufacturer of the Vespa brand of scooters, has come out of the red. For the past two years the company was in loss, resulting from the recession in the economy. In 1993-94, sales rose by Rs 62.72 crore, operating profit by Rs 27.95 crore and net profit by Rs 32.47 crore. Depreciation and interest charges were up by Rs 23 lakh and Rs 3.43 crore. This was offset by increase in other income and non-operating profit. Imports were up by 55 per cent, while exports fell by 3 per cent.
