Communalising Trend

Jute Research in Jeopardy JUTE, as is well known is an important agricultural product of the eastern region and West Bengal in particular; 70 per cent of the total production of jute is from West Bengal. In West Bengal the livelihood of about four million peasants, 5,00,000 traders and 1,50,000 workers is directly linked with the cultivation of jute and the jute industry. In a world where environment consciousness is growing, the possibility of rejuvenating the jute industry-jute being biodegradable is a real one, and one that has occupied the recent attention of experts all over the world. Now that there is a new opportunity for large amounts to be invested in this industry, powerful lobbies are at work to appropriate the fruits of the prospective revival of the industry.
