Netarhat Field-Firing Range-Tribals in Danger

The proposed field-firing range would cause large-scale deforestation and dispossession of tribal land and displace 2.35 lakh of tribals. THE block of Mahuadarn in Palamau district and the blocks of Bishunpur, Chainpur, Dumri, Ghaghra and Gumla in Gumla district of Jharkhand have been in news recently on account of the 23 artillery brigade's proposal for acquiring 2.3 lakh hectares of forest and agricultural land in these areas for the establishment of a field-firing range.
