and tax provision. Of a rise of Rs 5,382 crore in profit before all provisions, interest, depreciation and taxation took away no more than Rs 208 crore, Rs 163 crore and Rs 444 crore, respectively. Gross fixed asset formation was 13.5 per cent for the corporate sector as a whole in 1993-94, though growth in investment of over 50 percent was achieved by companies in some industries. But what is striking is that both high growth and low growth industries experienced diversion of resources away from fixed assets formation.
