Kerala Model Scrutinised AT the recently concluded International Congress on Kerala Studies in Thiruvananthapuram, the main subject of debate and discussion was the so-called Kerala model of development. Under this model the state made marked advances in social services, advances which got reflected in the state's remarkable achievements in regard to what have commonly come to be referred to as quality of life indices. At the same time, however, the state has been lagging badly behind in terms of economic growth and its unemployment and underemployment have reached levels which would be considered unacceptable by any standard.
