EPW Research Foundation Prime Securities PRIME SECURITIES (PS) which is engaged in the business of equity trading, merchant banking, equity research and leasing, has been promoted by the Great Eastern Shipping Company. PS plans to diversify from purely equity trading to a number of other fund and non-fund based activities. PS plans to focus on its merchant banking business which includes corporate issuance of capital and issue management of debt and equity offerings and also concentrate on three activities in the equity trading field, namely, medium and long-term investments, short-term trading and arbitrage between instruments and markets. It will provide advice on foreign exchange exposure management to Indian corporates and provide research reports on companies and industries to various institutional investors. Further, it also plans to maintain a presence in the leasing market by taking up leasing for tax-planning, rather than as a full-fledged business activity. To part finance its fund-based activities, working capital requirements and to enhance its infrastructural facilities through branch expansion, the company is tapping the capital market with a public issue of 54,50,000 equity shares of Rs 10 each which will be offered at a premium of Rs 91 per share. The issue aggregating Rs 55 crore will open for subscription on July 14 and will be lead managed by Standard Chartered Bank, ILFS and Jardine Fleming India Securities.
