Education and Women's Empowerment WHILE generally agreeing with the proposition that education of women in developing countries helps them to take an active part in socio-economic development, and is a critical factor in reducing fertility levels and infant mortality, one should not run away with the impression that education alone is good enough to reach these objectives. At the 'Education for All' summit of nine high population countries m Delhi, the question of gender gap in schooling came up at a panel discussion on girls' and women's education, population issues and women's empowerment.
