Putting an X over America X IS the sign of negation when you cross out an option, when with your pen, a brush, or even your mind, you close what would remain a possibility. For millions of black Americans, life in the US is lived under the shadow of an X that, in the form of systematic discrimination and, chronic poverty, denies the chances of a different future.
