Production of asbestos cement products by the company during 1990-91 was lower at 2,62,402 tonnes compared to 2,80,064 tonnes in the previous year. The drop was mainly on account of inadequate availability of raw asbestos and depressed market for asbestos cement pressure pipes, the directors state in their report, and add that the rupee's devaluation was expected to increase quite significantly the landed cost of raw asbestos and adversely affect profitability in 1991-92. The company also manufactures asbestos mill boards, moulded thermal insulation articles, jointings and thermal insulation products (refractories), the production of which during 1990-91 was satisfactory with increases recorded. At the same time, size separation and size reduction equipment and power driven pumps manufactured by the company saw greater acceptance in the market.
