Greenhouse Confusions SATYABAN SARKAR (EPW. November 17, 1990) implies that it is premature for the Third World to take a vigorously pro- environmental stand because of scientific uncertainties, because it may conflict with economic development, and because "the whole idea behind the greenhouse exercise may be to exact payment or exert control". But, in my opinion, inaction, especially by large Third World countries, like India both economically and environmentally would be wrong.
