Danger from MNCs WITH the liberalisation of our economy, the threat to national institutions from multinational corporations (MNCs) has increased significantly. Apart from financial clout, MNCs have great muscle power to subvert established public institutions and jeopardise the freedom of the press. These disturbing aspects have once again come into sharp focus with recent reports in the international press about Procter & Gamble, an American multinational, which used the local police and telephone company in Cincinnati to bug as many as 8 lakh telephone lines.
