Industrial Development in Gujarat

INDUSTRIAL development in Gujarat has witnessed an impressive growth during last 30 years, after its inception as a separate State. Till 1960, the industrial economy of the State was rested primarily on textile and textile ancillaries. The industrial activity was mainly concentrated around major city centres like Ahmedabad, Baroda, Surat and Rajkot. The State ranked 8th among the industrialised States in the country. The industrial activity, therefore, had only marginal impact on the State economy.
