The Side-Shows THE deliberations of the national executive of the BJP, held significantly enough at Madras, were largely in keeping with the intentions made clear at the executive's last session in April at Calcutta. Working towards the goal it had set itself of broadening the party's social and geographical base, the session narrowed its focus by and large to strategic thinking on the acquisition of a south Indian foothold. In the process it was forced to publicly repudiate some of its Jan Sangh inheritance.
