DEEPAK FERTILISERS Investment Income to Rescue DEEPAK FERTILISERS AND PETROCHEMICALS CORPORATION produced 76,115 tonnes of ammonia during the year ended March 31,1990 as against 95,300 tonnes in the previous year. Profit originating from the production operations were lower than those in the previous year. However, in view of other income earned by the company, which was mainly from investment, the overall profit was substantially higher. Operating profit was higher at Rs 18.36 crore as against Rs 13.27 crore. Net profit almost doubled to Rs 11.97 crore from Rs 6.94 crore in the preceding year. The retention price of fertilisers continued to cast a dark shadow on profitability. The company continues to operate under the provisional retention price of Rs 4,261 per tonne. Another cause of worry is the gas price dispute with ONGC which remains unresolved.
